By: Amy Wells.

If you've been rubber stamping for a while, you may be using primarily wooden blocks for your stamps. If you haven't yet, you should take a second look at today's choice of a plastic rubber stamp. They offer a number of advantages over wooden mounts for rubber stamps. The stamp picture itself is still constructed of rubber, but rather than wood, you can find a large scope of rubber stamps mounted on plastic.

First, think of how you have to hold a rubber stamp in order to stamp the image cleanly. The blocks can be big, heavy and cumbersome. Plastic rubber stamps have a distinct advantage in that they are lighter. Usually, plastic rubber stamps also come with and angled, easy to use handle which allows you to give even pressure all over the stamp with just one hand - even on large stamps: the result? - No more missing parts of your outline!

They way you have to clasp a rubber stamp in order to stamp the image flawlessly can also be laborious and awkward. Plastic rubber stamps have a clear-cut advantage in that they are lighter. Typically, plastic rubber stamps also attach to a handle which allows you to apply equal force on the stamp with just one hand - even on larger stamps, which allows you to stamp the outline quickly and easily.

Another great asset is the ability to achieve a more realistic scene, as if the images were always assembled together, with plastic rubber stamps; because you can check exactly where you are aiming the image. That makes masking certain areas particularly easy. In fact, being able to control and apply your images distinctly will allow you to try new designs you may not have considered previously.

They are also a much easier than wooden stamps to clean. The ink doesn't come through to the plastic in the style that it does with the wooden mounts. It will also wipe off easily, giving you a clean image every time, uncontaminated from additional dye or pigment ink . Likewise, the plastic does not need as drying as wooden mounts do, so with a fast wipe, your plastic rubber stamps are ready to use again.

You are also able to alter colors on a plastic rubber stamp much more easily and without delay as you can with a wood stamp - which brings greater versatility to your rubber stamping. Just conceive of the possibilities of being able to use the equivalent plastic rubber stamp in contrasting colors one sitting - even within one project!

As you can see, plastic rubber stamps are easy to clean, convenient to use, and assist you in applying a more precise and layered image. Once you've tried plastic rubber stamps you'll be hooked on an altogether fresh area of possibilities for your rubber stamping. Give a plastic rubber stamp a try with your next project.
